Day 1 - Saturday - Dubrovnik

Arrival in medieval Dubrovnik where the beautiful Dalmatians meet the Adriatic. Transfer on arrival to your hotel. Balance of the day is free. (D)

Day 2 - Sunday - Dubrovnik

A walking tour of Old Dubrovnik this morning will take you to see the Rector’s Palace with its priceless artifacts, the Bell Tower Clock, Orlando’s Column built by Antonio Ragustino in 1418 and Sponza Palace with its elegantly sculpted Renaissance loggia on the ground floor. You will also see the Dominican Monastery dating from 1315 and the Franciscan Monastery dating from 1317 housing one of the world’s oldest pharmacies.

The rest of the day is free. Since the roads and streets in Dubrovnik are quite narrow, walking is the primary mode of transportation. (B)

Day 3 - Monday - Dubrovnik - Split

Heading out of Dubrovnik this morning we travel north along the spectacular Adriatic Coast past old fishing villages and new resorts en route to Split, the largest town on the Dalmatian Coast. On arrival a sightseeing tour features the historic inner city built around Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace, now declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. See the remnants of Split’s Roman heritage, its Renaissance and Gothic structures including Jupiter’s Temple, the Peristyle and the Cathedral. (B,D)

Day 4 - Tuesday - Split - Trogir - Plitvice Lakes

Traveling north along the coast this morning we come to Trogir, a center of artistic activities where scholars from around the world gather to study and paint. Then we turn inland and travel to Plitvice Lakes National Park. Have your camera ready to take pictures as we take our walking tour around several of the lower lakes. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery of this natural wonder of 16 terraced lakes surrounded by thickly wooded mountains and lush vegetation. (B,D)

Day 5 - Wednesday - Plitvice Lakes - Opatija - Postojna - Bled

Returning to the coast we come to the beautiful Bay of Kvarner and its popular resort Opatija located at the foot of Mount Ucka. Its streets still maintain a 19th century air. Heading north drive to Postojna, home of the largest cave in Europe to tour this fantastic subterranean world by miniature electric train. Here in the towering chambers of limestone, the dripping water has formed mysterious shapes in stalactites and stalagmites. Afterwards our journey continues to the mountain resort of Bled sitting in a valley surrounded by the snow-capped Julian Alps. (B,D)

Day 6 - Thursday - Bled

A morning sightseeing tour of this lake resort will feature Bled Castle situated on a cliff high above the lake offering a magnificent view. The balance of the day is free. Perhaps an optional visit to the old church located on a small island in the middle of the lake or to take a ride around the lake in a traditional Fijaker. (B)

Day 7 - Friday - Bled - Ljubljana - Zagreb

Your sightseeing tour of Ljubljana, one of the smaller European capitals will take you to see the most significant sights of the old city center such as the picturesque Central open Air Market and the Three Bridges which started out as a single bridge and after an earthquake in 1895, two more bridges (one on each side of the existing one were built for pedestrians) both designed by the famous architect Joze Plecnik. Next is the Baroque Town Hall where its Baroque arcade with pattern painted arches will surely catch your attention. Robba’s Fountain inspired after a fountain the Piazza Navona in Rome is located next to the Town Hall and is said to be the most beautiful Baroque monument in the city. Located at the junction of three streets symbolizing the three rivers – Sava, Krka and Ljubljanica and is characterized by three Triton figures. Then its on to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. (B,D)

Day 8 - Saturday - Zagreb

This morning a city tour of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia features the historic Upper Town featuring St. Mark’s Church, the parish church of the Upper Town with its colored tile roof forming the coat of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia, Slavonia and Zagreb. See St. Catherine’s Church built on the site of an ancient Dominican Church and considered to be one of the most beautiful religious buildings in the city and the Cathedral, the most famous monument in the city dedicated to the Assumption and Saints Stephen and Ladislau. Next is the neo-classical Parliament building built in 1908 and the Government Palace. The rest of the day is free to explore the winding streets of the old town on your own or to take an optional excursion into the countryside. (B)
