Day 1 Wednesday May 4 Arrive Zagreb
Meet & greet. Transfer to hotel. Dinner in hotel. (D)
Day 2 Thursday May 5 Zagreb – Ljubljana – Bled
Morning sightseeing tour of the city begins with the historic Upper Town featuring St. Mark’s Church with its colored tile roof forming the coat of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia, Slavonia and Zagreb. See beautiful St. Catherine’s Church built on the site of an ancient Dominican Church and the Cathedral, the most famous monument in the city. Next is the neo-classical Parliament building built in 1908 and the Government Palace. Afternoon departure for Ljubljana in Slovenia, one of the smaller European capitals. Visit the picturesque market in the old city center and the Three Bridges which started out as a single bridge but after an earthquake in 1895, a pedestrian bridge was added on each side. Next is the Baroque Town Hall with painted arches and Robba’s Fountain, located at the junction of three streets. Late afternoon arrival in the Alpine resort of Bled. Dinner in hotel. (B,D)
Day 3 Friday May 6 Bled
Morning sightseeing tour of Bled. The town’s situation on a cliff high above the lake offers a magnificent view. Visit Bled castle (if open) and enjoy a boat ride to St. Mary church in the centre of the lake. Afternoon free. Dinner in local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 4 Saturday May 7 Bled – Postojna – Opatija
Drive to Postojna, to one of the largest caves in Europe. A one and a half hour walk along well-kept paths (mostly horizontal) allow visitors to see the expansive cave areas with stalactite and stalagmite formations. Overnight in the resort of Opatija, on the Gulf of Kvarner. The blue sea, mountains, parks, and the restored villas along the 12 km costal promenade make Opatija a favourite destination on the Adriatic throughout the year. Afternoon free. Dinner in hotel. Day 5 Sunday May 8 Opatija – Plitvice
Drive to Plitvice National Park, the first and largest national park in Croatia. The park harbours a grand collection of waterfalls, lakes, forest and animal life. The lakes are renowned for their distinctive colors, ranging from azure to green, grey or blue. The colors change constantly depending on the quantity of minerals and organisms in the water and the angle of sunlight. The sixteen lakes are formed by natural dams of travertine. Walk through the park on the boardwalk trails. Dinner in hotel. (B,D)
Day 6 Monday May 9 Plitvice – Trogir - Split
Morning drive to the historic city of Trogir, on a small island 30 kms west of Split. Trogir was first settled by the Greeks in the 3rd century B.C. but there are influences of Roman, Greek, and Venetian architecture around every bend. Sightseeing tour includes St. Johns Cathedral, the Town Loggia, Kamerlango Tower and the “Riva”, a beautiful promenade that runs along the coastline of the city. Afternoon arrival in Split. Sightseeing includes Diocletian’s Palace in the centre of the city. Built by the Roman Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 3rd century AD, it combines the qualities of a luxurious villa with those of a military camp. Dinner in local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 7 Tuesday May 10 Split – Dubrovnik
Morning departure for Dubrovnik. A walking tour of Old Dubrovnik will take in the Rector’s Palace with its priceless artifacts, the Bell Tower Clock, Orlando’s Column built in 1418 and Sponza Palace with its elegantly sculpted Renaissance loggia on the ground floor. You will also see the Dominican Monastery and the Franciscan Monastery dating from 1317, housing one of the world’s oldest pharmacies. Dinner in local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 8 Wedesday May 11 Montenegro
Full day excursion to discover another one of the former Yugoslav republics, Montenegro. Morning departure for the old town of Kotor, among the best preserved medieval towns in the Mediterranean. Following a sightseeing tour continue to Cetinje and visit King Nikola museum. Drive to Budva, considered one of the oldest places on the Adriatic Coast. According to legend Budva was founded by Kadmo, the son of a Phoenician king. It lies on a small peninsula connected to the land by a causeway. The old town is surrounded with high walls built in the 15th century. After some free time return to Dubrovnik. Dinner in hotel. (B,D)
Day 9 - 11 Thursday - Saturday May 12 - 14 Dubrovnik
Days at leisure. Possibility to book optional tours or visit islands of Hvar, Brac or Korcula. Dinner in hotel. (B,D)
Day 12 Sunday May 15 Return to Canada
Transfer to Dubrovnik airport.
